Maldives- Paradise on Earth

The Maldives…..a beauty that certainly lives up to its expectations. A serene beauty undisturbed by man’s intervention primarily because you’re practically marooned on an island, that is, on the property, you choose to stay. Everything that you need comes via seaplane to the island. So, no wonder things don’t come cheap in the Maldives.

We stayed at a property called Dusit Thani. The moment you look down from your seaplane the visuals that first captivate you is pristine blue waters as though you’re looking at sapphire in the sea, in different shades of blue.

Once we landed on the island, its a completely different world almost as if images from a fairytale book are unfolding right before us. As a reader, writer probably this is the imagery that struck me first but for each, it could be different.

The calmness and tranquility all around transported me to a different mind space altogether. The islands have not been meddled with much, they have tried to keep it as close to their original beauty. No landscaping done, just the earthy look, apart from a bit of lighting along the pathway that enhances its beauty at night.

The place is so quiet with nothing much happening around, that my initial thought was will the girls have fun.

But I was wrong, we just didn’t know how the days slipped by that by the end of it we were yearning for one more day in this paradise. I've always wanted to know more about the culture of the places I visit, to observe the people and try out their cuisines...call it the curiosity of a journalist! Here I could just gather only a bit interacting with the staff. By the way, they speak good English, as they're taught this language at the schools from primary years.

The sea waters are ideal for swimming – snorkeling being one of the most sought-after activities here. Though I had never tried my hand at it, this time I let my adventurous spirit take over. And behold, if you thought paradise was just on earth, you have to look below the sea. Corals, fishes of different colors, sea animals all swimming blissfully, their world just seemed so perfect.

The nights came alive with live music, wine, and some great-tasting food. I’ve had one of the finest Thai cuisines at their Thai restaurant Benjarong. And if you have any special occasion to celebrate what better way to celebrate it than with this majestic sea view!
